‘Lo there! I’m here again for our deed for this week. But hey, before we get down to reading our good deed, haven’t you noticed that I’m already getting into some sort of routine wherein I get to post the deeds a few days (or hours, for that matter) before the week ends? Well, I can’t do anything about it. I just find Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to be the period when I’m extremely busy (and when I say extremely busy, it really means EXTREMELY BUSY!) with paperwork and stuff from our hospital duty. So with this, I hope you’ll bear with me (in future featurettes, that is) ’til I get to finish all of ‘em, mmmkay? As if I’m not already doing it, no? Haha! But from time to time, I’ll surprise you by posting the deed on a Monday like some of the previous ones!
Now, enough of all this hoopla and let’s get it on for week seven! See what the card has in store for all of us (assuming I haven’t read it yet), after the jump!
Ready? Gooooo! (Wow, new spiels! Got tired of the “cutesy brown box”, eh?
)

The seventh card suggests that we give blood–that by giving some, we can save someone else’s life and be an instant hero! A monument erected in your honor, because you donated blood? I want that! I mean, who wouldn’t want that? Haha! Crazy me.
Ermmm…the idea of donating blood is not entirely new to my system considering that I’m in a profession that deals with a lot of…well you guessed it right: BLOOD! Haha.
Way back when we were in third year, we actually had the chance to observe the whole process of blood donation at the local Red Cross chapter–starting from when the donor comes in and registers, gets tested for blood-borne diseases, is cleared, lies down on a comfy bed, gets to be inserted with a gauge 16 needle, has blood drawn out of his/her system until he/she fills a hefty bag to be kept and stored for future use. As I saw the routine, my anxiety was lowered to a certain extent, but not low enough for me to try it for myself! And even if I’m in the health care field, I’m still scared to have a large-bore needle inserted onto my brachial artery or something. So yeah, I’m a chicken! Haha.
Since we’re crossing the topic of blood donation in this post, let me share to you a roundup of the advantages of this genuine act as enumerated by the Red Cross (of which, I am a volunteer…just not so active
):
- When a person donates blood, his/her bone marrow is stimulated to produce new red cells. This will make our blood forming organs to function more effectively and make our cells active.
- A Red Cross Donor is given a “blood donor card”. With this card, the donor will be given priority in case of blood needs.
- A physician will examine prospective donors who submit themselves to the procedure for free. He/She will also know his/her blood type and know whether he/she is anemic or not. Donors will be informed of diseases seen in the blood as a result of the screening tests.
- And the best part is, the donor will be able to save/prolong someone’s life.
Anyways, I’m open to the thought of going to a blood bank to donate some of my *insert other term for blood here* (Sheesh. I’m running out of terms!)…but just not at the moment, ’cause I’m still not ready physically and psychologically. I may not be fulfilling this deed for now, but I promise to do so in the future! I may probably be able to do it in like, 5 years or so. Heheh.
Even if many of us are still chickens to doing this deed, well let’s just say to ourselves, “WE WILL. IN TIME.” But for those who are brave enough to do it, may you start and continue to do it for us chickens! Kidding aside, may you start and continue to give blood for the act itself is really good; you can save some other persons’ lives; and you can be called instant heroes! Hooray!
——————————————
This deed is very timely because Valentine’s day falls within this week. And what symbol do we have for Valentine’s day? Well, HEARTS! And what does the heart do? Well, PUMP BLOOD!
So to all those who will be having no dates tomorrow, you may go to the nearest blood bank and donate your blood instead! We chickens are exceptions to the rule, of course. Haha! If you’re brave enough, and you’re dateless tomorrow, then go and be part of someone else’s journey to life and love! At least you’ll have your blood run through that person’s heart, veins, arteries and capillaries, and you’ll be spreading the love! Right on! Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
*P.S. To my ever dearest first-degree friends, when I finally make up my mind to donate blood (someday), I’ll make sure that I’ll drag you to the blood bank so that we all get to give blood like how the card suggests, “You and your friends could go & do this.” So if I were you, you better join me in the readying process ’cause if I say that I will drag you within the next five years…I really mean it. That’s what friends are for. All for one, and one for all! Haha!
*P.P.S. Di kayo makakapalag! Kaya ko kayo kaladkarin papunta doon! Mwahaha! ![]()

were on the same boat… takot ako mgdonate ng blood, baka maubusan ako.. hahahha…
pero ang saya mgdonate. yung fulfillment.. hay… katakot naman yung mga needles.
Hulaan ko…si Lau ka noh? Hahaha! Ermm…oo nakakatakot talaga. Haha. Basta in a matter of years, magagawa ko din yun. Hahaha.
Despite my low threshold for pain and the unavoidable wincing and wooziness during blood exams, I’m pretty keen on this idea. A, I wouldn’t mind if you dragged me to go with you.. although -scratches head- I have a feeling that I might be the one dragging you to the closest blood drive since I’m thinking of doing it the first (or second) time that opportunity comes along.
After all, I resolved that for 2009 I would try out new things. So far this has included: not being KJ at the beach. :] “DONATE BLOOD” would be an award-worthy point to add to my list of NEW THINGS. :] woot!
p.s.
i wanted to write a poem to make you happy but, i didn’t know what to write about.
-The Needle-
For Raymond the needle in the sun
glitters so menacing
In it goes to the place one would call
artery or something
But Raymond’s too chicken to do it
someday soon, unlike Zee
Who will drag Raymond to the closest
blood drive in town, hee hee
A, count syllables! XD whew. that was a tough one.
P.P.S.
So, yeah. I made one after all. XD
Huwaaaaw! Hahaha. I didn’t see THAT coming. At ang meter, pinabilang pa talaga sakin! Uniform! Ang galing galing mo Zee! I really, really appreciate the poem. Galing, galing! Hamo, hamo…someday, I’ll make you one too. Heheh.
Siya sige, subukan mo kong hilahin kung mahila mo ko. Six footer ako, ‘member? *chuckles*
Nyahaha.
darn! why’d ya have to be so friggin tall?? err. && of course i’d get you to count it. nag.effort ako jan and i wouldn’t want you to miss it. XD hahahah.
Nung nagsabog kasi si God ng height, nandun ako sa second row. Haha!
Haha. Salamat uli sa tula! Effort!
